Professorville Homes and Neighborhood Guide
Palo Alto neighborhood guide
Professorville is Palo Alto's oldest residential neighborhood, where homes went up from the 1890s for early Stanford faculty. Its core, roughly Kingsley, Bryant and Addison avenues between Ramona and Waverley, is a National Register historic district listed in 1980.
The streets are lined with brown shingle houses with gambrel roofs, Craftsman bungalows and Colonial Revival homes, many designed by well known early architects. The HP Garage at 367 Addison Avenue, where Hewlett and Packard started in 1939, is here too, a few blocks from University Avenue.

Homes and Streets
This is a neighborhood where the houses themselves are the attraction. Many are protected by the historic district, so remodels keep the street facing character, and buyers tend to be looking for a specific kind of home rather than square footage alone. Lots are moderate, trees are mature and the blocks are quiet despite being a short walk from downtown.
