Mills Estate sits on the southern edge of Millbrae along the Burlingame border, climbing the hills west of El Camino Real toward Interstate 280. The neighborhood continues into Burlingame, and the Millbrae side includes streets such as Murchison Drive, Sebastian Drive, Vallejo Drive and Frontera Way.
The name comes from Darius Ogden Mills, the Gold Rush entrepreneur who bought this land in 1860 and named his estate Millbrae, combining Mills with the Scottish word brae for rolling hills. His mansion burned in 1954, and the land later became the sites of Mills High School, Spring Valley Elementary and Peninsula Hospital, with homes built across the hills.
Today Mills Estate is known for spacious homes, Bay views and having Mills High School and Spring Valley Elementary close by.

Mills Estate is mostly detached single family homes from the early to mid 1960s, such as 1963 and 1964 homes on Murchison Drive, Sebastian Drive and Vallejo Drive. Two story traditional and contemporary designs are common, and many homes have family rooms, decks and views.
The streets wind up the hillside, and some lots are generous, with homes positioned to look out over the Bay. Condominium units on Frontera Way add another option.
